They appear perfect initially

One of the hallmarks of narcissists is that they are friendly people when you meet them at first. They might often be the first person to volunteer to help. You might find them fun and positive. Watch out for someone who showers you with glory when they are only getting to know you. In a relationship, a narcissist will often bring up love very prematurely and try to get you to commit before you are ready. This is nothing but a technique to gain control.

They talk about themselves almost all the time

Narcissists are highly self-obsessed, and that means they love themselves eternally. Narcissists consider the world and everything in it through a filter that shows how every topic and situation relates to them, so their responses to what you say will always put their mindset back in the spotlight. They have little ability to empathize with others, so they will presumably never be able to comprehend your point of view.

They are sensitive to receive criticism

Narcissists can not stand to be criticized. They tend to obsess with it and they are always wanting someone to say something good to them. This means that they will often take innocent remarks as criticism and will bobble up.

Narcissists desire command of everything and everyone around them. They love to be able to exploit other people’s feelings because controlling others helps them get what they desire. Narcissists are specialists at using words to make others feel bad about themselves or even to be angry at someone else. They like to have everyone around them at odds with each other because it permits them to control the situation.

They seem arrogant

Narcissists think that they are better than everyone else, and they often feel qualified. They believe that they deserve the best in everything. If they fail to get everything they want, they will quickly blame it on someone else.

One sure way to make narcissists angry is to deny them. This is why it can be so difficult to break up with a narcissist. They tend to feel so strongly that they are superior to you that they can not stand the idea that you might not want to be around them.

Narcissism is a scary mental health problem that hurts relationships and people. There is help for narcissism but only if the person involved acknowledges the problem. Because most narcissists cannot see their failures, it is safest to dodge them when possible.
