It can be regarded as emotional cheating. When you are drawn to someone, flirting is a form of communicating that interest through subtle strings. 

While there may be undeniable moments when flirting crosses a line, mutual support. Clearness in your relationship, and underlying purpose can all be significant factors when deciding if flirting is cheating.

Every relationship is different from one another. What may upset you, may not upset someone else. Openly talking about your and your partner’s anticipations and willingness to honor those is a healthy way of getting on the same page and determining if flirting is cheating or not.

Deleting messages, and hiding chat may all show secrecy. Similarly, meeting with someone confidentially and not telling your partner is also a warning sign that flirting is coming closer to cheating.

Flirting to show intimacy

Closeness is often a precious element of a relationship. This does not only direct to physical intimacy but also emotional intimacy. Sharing personal details about you with someone can create a feeling of intimacy with someone on a level where your partner no longer feels special.

Putting your spouse second to the other person

Another place where flirting may become cheating is when you neglect your partner’s needs in favor of the person you are flirting with. Skipping a dinner date, for example, because you want to stay longer at the office to chat with a co-worker, can be considered as crossing a line. Failing to express love to your partner when you are in front of the person you flirt with can also be a warning sign you may be closing the cheating line.

Complimenting and trying to create feelings

Congratulating someone on an accomplishment is not quite similar to complimenting their appearance, mannerisms, or qualities that make them attractive. Confessing someone else’s attractiveness even once can make partners uneasy. If you are trying to develop romantic or sexual feelings for yourself, you are falling into the cheating line.
